Once again, “Forbidden Johnny” Soyak is back at the PCA Convention & Trade Show showing off his unique creation named Cigar in the Bottle. In addition, Soyak told me about a brand new accolade the creation recently received, as well as some major distribution news.

Nothing has changed about the booth compared to the past two years, and the same goes for the actual Cigar in the Bottle. The creation consists of a 6 x 52 Vartan custom cigar blended by Hendrik Kelner that is aged for five years and then encased in a thin glass bottle of Grand Pommier XS VSOP Cognac.

Soyak mentioned that he has opened up distribution to a few new markets, specifically the city of Las Vegas, as well as the state of New York. He also told me that for the fourth year in a row, the Grand Pommier XS VSOP Cognac that is in each bottle won a silver medal at the L.A. Spirits Awards, which took place earlier this year.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
