In the final couple of hours of PCA 2023, I dropped by the Art de Fumar booth. One booth away from the far corner of the show floor entrance is not one you think would get much foot traffic. Still, despite its location and only a short amount of time left before the show ended, plenty of retailers were admiring and buying products.

Robert Glick, owner and artist who creates these pieces, could only give me about 30 seconds at a time to tell me about his art pieces as he had that many retailers who wanted to talk to him about Art de Fumar.

So what is Art de Fumar? In short, the company sells cigar band art. What kind of art? Well, there’s quite a variety, but first, let’s visit just a little history.

Glick is a lawyer by trade, but as a lover of cigars, he wanted a personal touch to his mancave and started designing cigar band-covered coasters. He expanded to other accessories and art pieces and, six years ago, started selling them under the Art de Fumar company.  While I don’t remember seeing any of his humidors on display, one of those pieces, along with a custom ashtray, was donated for the 2023 Procigar auction.

Besides cigar accessories, Glick also had fashion accessories on display, such as the shoes pictured above and some custom jewelry covered in various brand cigar bands.

Many sculptures were on display as well, with all the people filing through the booth wanting to purchase these either for their office or shop.

Lastly, Glick also creates wall art using cigar bands, including commissions for cigar shops that would like art pieces with their branding to hang in their lounge.

Glick noted that since all of these pieces are custom-made, nothing on display or in the catalog had prices as they vary from piece to piece.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
