Pappy & Co., the Pappy Van Winkle-themed merchandising company owned by the Van Winkle family, is getting another exclusive cigar from Drew Estate.
The Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented Corona Viva, a 5 3/4 x 46 corona gorda that uses the original Pappy Van Winkle cigar blend, will be available through Pappy & Co. later this month. It will have an MSRP of $16 per cigar and will come in boxes of 10.
Blend-wise, it uses two wrappers—Mexican San Andrés and Kentucky-grown tapa negra—over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Kentucky and Nicaragua. The tobaccos from Kentucky are both fire-cured and barrel-aged, creating one of the more unique profiles you can find in a cigar.
“Both the Van Winkle family and Drew Estate built their reputations on being painstakingly committed to producing artisanal, high-quality and handcrafted products,” said Carrie Van Winkle Greener, co-founder of Pappy & Company, in a press release. “Our shared passion for those traditions stands at the center of every Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented cigar, and the new Corona Viva format extends and deepens our mutual legacy for producing authentic, handcrafted and high-quality products.”
This is the second new Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented vitola for 2022 that has gone exclusive to Pappy & Co. In March, Drew Estate announced that a 6 x 60 gordo size would head to Pappy & Co. as an exclusive, though it said it would offer that size to Drew Diplomat Retailers next year. Drew Estate has made no such claim about the new Corona Viva.
