This year marks the 60th anniversary of Padrón, and as would be expected, the company is celebrating with a new, limited production line of cigars that will make its debut at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show this week ahead of its release later this year.

It’s two new blends for the company, one natural and one maduro, and both Nicaraguan puros, created just for this release. Jorge Padrón said that the company approached this project the same way it approaches every cigar it blends, with a simple objective to “make it taste good.”

“My father said that a cigar doesn’t have to be a sledgehammer over your head,” Padrón told halfwheel, adding that the 60th Anniversary was blended to taste balanced and have complexity.

The cigars are being released in a perfecto vitola that measures 6 inches long with a 48 ring gauge at its most slender and a 56 ring gauge at its thickest. The company isn’t releasing images of the cigars prior to when they are revealed to the cigar industry this Saturday when the trade show opens. Padrón did note that it is a round vitola as opposed to a box-pressed vitola that the company often uses for its higher-end releases.

What is known is that they are packaged in new 10-count boxes; what’s not known is the price and exactly when it will ship. Padrón said that he is hoping that at least some cigars will be ready to be released on Sept. 8, which is the company’s official anniversary date. While the plan is to make the Padrón 60th Anniversary an ongoing release, production is also extremely limited, with just one pair producing the cigars, which may push the release into the fourth quarter of 2024. Production has begun on the cigars, Padrón said.

Padrón is also giving the cigars a brand new band, one that incorporates design elements from the brand’s earliest days. This element was one that Padrón took a particular interest in, as he said that it’s taken him time to appreciate the bands that graced the earliest cigars that his father created, and he wanted to honor the characteristics of those small pieces of paper with this newest release.

In addition to the release of the cigars, the company will be sponsoring the keynote address on Friday as part of the trade show. Padrón told halfwheel that it will feature clips from Tony Hernandez’s interview with company founder José Orlando Padrón that were filmed as part of The Immigrant Archive Projectas well as what he described as a “family video” chronicling the company’s history.

The company will also be releasing a collection of accessories produced by S.T. Dupont. However, Padrón declined to go into specifics as to what all would be unveiled on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Pacific Time.

Update (April 9, 2024) — Added images from PCA 2024. The company showed off the cigar, but did not announce pricing or a formal release date.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
