6. Romeo y Julieta Línea de Oro

A lot of the time, the releases that make our packaging top 10 are either over-the-top and ultra ornate or they are so far from your typical cigar box that at first glance you might not even think that they hold cigars. The Romeo y Julieta Línea de Oro is neither of those, but that’s not to say it’s just a plain old box of cigars.

For the 145th anniversary of the Romeo y Julieta brand, Habanos S.A. created the Línea de Oro, translated “Gold Line”, and debuted it at the Festival del Habano XXII. The box itself has stained a beautiful shade of red with gold trimmings, and the Romeo y Julieta logo, in the form of a golden medallion, is embedded in the lid.

Opening up the box, the cigars themselves feature bands that started with the traditional band design and then modified to use gold as the dominant color. Coming in three sizes—Dianas, Hidalgos, or Nobles—the name of each respective vitola is featured along the bottom of the top band. A secondary band around the foot is embossed with LINEA DE ORO and another Romeo y Julieta logo along the side.

While the release might not be the first thing on our list that jumps out at you, the minute attention to detail is something that can be appreciated and applauded, securing itself at number six on our list. — Brian Burt.
