The Ortega Minis, which debuted at last year’s IPCPR trade show in cigarette-like packaging, will be offered in boxes by the end of the month. Eddie Ortega told halfwheel the company will begin offering the Habano and Maduro versions of the 4 x 38 petit in 30-count boxes.

Putting the cigar in boxes will reduce the price of the cigars by over a dollar. Currently, a four-pack of the cigars sells for $15, $3.75 per cigar, whereas the boxes will be priced at $81.75, bringing the cost down to just over $2.70 per cigar.

The future of the Ortega Mini Natural, which features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, is in doubt due to sluggish sales, although Ortega told halfwheel it is not officially been cancelled.

The cigars are expected to arrive from the PDR Cigars factory by the end of the month. The four-pack packaging will remain in production.
