The small town of Chickasaw, Alabama is the latest to pass a ban on smoking in public and work places, according to a report from WPMI-TV.

The ordinance was passed by the Chickasaw City Council on Tuesday, November 26 and includes bars, restaurants, ballparks and playgrounds. It requires that anyone wishing to smoke must stand at least 15 feet away from entrances to businesses or workplaces, or a similar distance from seating areas and playground equipment at parks or recreation facilities.

Also included in the ordinance is a provision that states that hotels and motels are not allowed to designate more than 20 percent of its rooms as being smoking rooms.

Chickasaw is located in southwest Alabama and is part of Mobile County and the Mobile metropolitan area. It has a population of approximately 6,000 residents, according to recent US census estimates. The city joins nearby Satsuma, Creola, Saraland, Citronelle and Bayou La Batre as having comprehensive smoking bans.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
