At this week’s InterTabac tradeshow in Dortmund, Germany, Meerapfel Cigar will unveil its newest cigar line, the Ernest Master Blend, the third cigar to be named for important figures in the Meerapfel family’s history.

The line is named for Ernest Meerapfel, who in the late 1800s, left his family and village of Untergrombach, Germany, to set sail and “revolutionize
the world of premium tobacco,” the company wrote in a press release.

“My great grandfather Ernest’s exodus was the epitome of curiosity and bravery that our family members have always carried in their hearts; a lust for accessing the finest leaves nature has to offer, no matter how remote or challenging the adventure may be,” said Jeremiah Meerapfel, chairman of M. Meerapfel & Söhne Belgium S.A., via a press release. “The Meerapfel Ernest Master Blend is filled with aspirational sensations, layers of curiosity, and an awe-inspiring complexity, exemplifying the unique explorations of those who leave behind the assumed safety and comfort, to conquer only the finest – the intricacy of UberLuxury.”

Like the Richard and Meir lines, the company is not disclosing the blend of the Ernest line, which is debuting in four vitolas:

  • Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend Double Robusto (5 3/4 x 52) — $94 / €101 (Box of 10, $940 / €1,010)
  • Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend Corona Gorda (5 1/2 x 46) — $41 / €44 (Box of 25, $1,025 / €1,100)
  • Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend Robusto (4 7/8 x 50) — $46 / €49 (Box of 25, $1,150 / €1,225)
  • Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend Lonsdale (6 3/4 x 43) — $50 / €53 (Box of 25, $1,250 / €1,325

The annual production of the Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend is limited to 613 boxes, or chests, as the company calls them, per vitola, which is allocated to the company’s retailers around the world.

Additionally, the Double Robusto vitola is offered in what the company refers to as a casket, and which comes with an ornate ashtray. A similar packaging format for the Meerapfel Richard placed first on halfwheel’s 2022 Packaging Top 10 list.

The Meerapfel Cigar Ernest Master Blend is slated to begin shipping to retailers around the world in September.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
