Maya Selva Celebrating 20 Years with Limited Edition Flor de Selva Lancero
While still relatively new to the U.S. cigar market, Maya Selva Cigars is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a limited edition lancero being added to its Flor de Selva line.
Gabriel Alvarez, the company’s director of sales, recently posted a photo of the new cigar on his Instagram account.
Alvarez told halfwheel that the cigar measures 7 x 38 and will come in 10-count boxes when it is released at the 2015 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show this July, with shipping scheduled to begin immediately after the show. It will be offered only to existing accounts around the world, and while production numbers have not been finalized, he did say that the U.S. will get a smaller amount than the rest of the world. Pricing on the new vitola is also still to be confirmed, though an announcement could be coming before the end of the month.
Like the rest of the Flor de Selva line, it is being made at Tabacos de Oriente in Honduras. The Flor de Selva blend is a Honduran puro that uses a Honduran Connecticut wrapper with a habano Jamastrán binder and filler of viso Trojes and ligero Jamastrán (Azacualpa) tobaccos, though Alvarez said that each vitola gets its own distinct blend, not simply a ratio adjustment based on its size, meaning that the lancero will take on its own distinct flavor.
Earlier this month, the company announced it will also be adding a 6 x 52 toro vitola to the Flor de Selva line, with its debut scheduled for the IPCPR trade show as well.
Flor de Selva was Maya Selva’s first brand, launched in 1995. Since then the Cumpay line was added in 1999 with Villa Zambrano added in 2002.
