Matilde Cigar Co.’s newest cigar will begin shipping to retailers on Friday.
The Matilde Special Edition is a 6 x 50 toro made with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and a filler blend that includes tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Peru. Of note, this is the first time that Matilde has utilized Peruvian tobacco in one of the company’s blends. Special Edition is being made at the TABACALERA LA iSLA factory located in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Each cigar has an MSRP of $13.25 and is sold in 24-count boxes. The first shipment is limited to only 5,000 cigars.
According to Enrique Seijas, founder of Matilde Cigar Co., he was inspired to use Peruvian tobacco since his father, José Seijas, loved to smoke cigars that included tobacco from Peru. The older Seijas oversaw the massive Tabacalera de García factory that produces cigars for Altadis U.S.A. before retiring in 2012.
