A barber pole spin on the Leaf by Oscar line that had previously been only available in Asia has landed at Cigora as an exclusive for the online retailer.

The line was originally created as an exclusive for the Asian market and was sold between 2018-2020 via the company’s distributor in Vietnam. Blend-wise, it uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper and a Honduran-grown Connecticut wrapper to create the design. Those two leaves sit atop a Honduran binder and filler, with the blend being described as medium-bodied and highlighted by notes of cream, cinnamon, leather, earth and dark chocolate.

“I kept a special ‘Leaf by Oscar’ blend in aging for five years and always thought of its release as a way to introduce a completely new experience to the line,” said Oscar Valladares in a press release. “So when I had the chance to work with Cigora, I immediately knew the time was right to make this blend available. To create this small batch release, I layered a classic Honduran profile with the rich earthiness of San Andrés tobacco and the mellow creaminess of Honduran-grown Connecticut Shade. The blend offers the experience of two handcrafted cigars in one amazing, aged smoke and I’m extremely proud of how it well turned out.”

The Leaf by Oscar Limited Edition 2018 is offered in a 6 x 54 toro vitola priced at $212.99 for a bundle of 20 cigars, and a 6 x 60 gordo that is priced at $229.99 per bundle of 20 cigars. Production numbers have not been disclosed, but Cigora describes the cigar as a limited-time offering, with a representative from Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. estimating that approximately 3,500 bundles were created when it was an exclusive release for the Asian market.

Cigora is owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group, which also owns Cigars International, Thompson Cigar, Cigar.com, General Cigar Co., Forged Cigar Co. and other cigar companies.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
