For just the second time since the La Palina Goldie line debuted in 2012, there is a store-exclusive release, and it’s a 6 1/2 x 54 Toro Grande for The “World Famous” Cigar Bar in the Fort Myers, Fla. area. The cigar also comes with a modified blend by way of added ligero in the filler and a higher priming of the Ecuadorian habano wrapper that is found on the line.

The request for the extra oomph came from Rich Castiano the owner of The “World Famous” Cigar Bar, who has been a supporter of La Palina and its staff “since day one,” said Sam Phillips, president and partner at La Palina. Phillips said that Castiano is considered “extended family” and that La Palina was proud to be able to deliver on the cigar, which also gets a foot band with the company’s logo as well as its logo on the lid.

The rest of the blend remains the same, with an Ecuadorian binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco—including some medio tiempo—in the filler. Like the rest of the line, it was rolled by El Titan de Bronze in Miami, with 150 boxes of 10 cigars produced. It is priced at $25 per cigar and $250 for a box of 10 cigars.

Castiano praised not only the cigars that La Palina is producing, but the marketing and other efforts of the company since Phillips and Clay Roberts joined the company in December 2015. He went on to compliment the job that the team did in creating this modified Goldie, which he said definitely hit the medium-full target he was hoping it would, since he prefers cigars in that range of flavor intensity.

The “World Famous Cigar Bar” has three locations, two in Fort Myers and one in Cape Coral, and while there is no online store, they will ship to customers who wish to order by phone.

The first store exclusive for the La Palina Goldie line was a Robusto Extra created for BURN by Rocky Patel in approximately 2021, according to Phillips.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
