Litto Gomez of La Flor Dominicana is getting into the ashtray business with a new project that he has launched called Ashtronomy.

It is part of the La Flor Dominicana catalog, but Gomez created a space called the Ashtronomy Lab at his factory in Tamboril, Dominican Republic in which he developed the ashtrays. To do so, he spent the better part of a year working on the project, using a liquid mica mixture to create various shapes and colors.

The line is debuting with a blue, four-rest ashtray that features a silhouette of Gomez smoking a cigar and the La Flor Dominicana word mark on the side. The company is limiting it to 125 pieces, each with an MSRP of $120. It is available at select retailers beginning this week, and will be available on LFDShop.com the week of March 7.

More releases are planned for the Ashtronomy brand, as the company says that it will be adding more through periodic small batch releases.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
