It means night in Latin and the theme is dark. Dark everything.

La Flor Dominicana’s main trade show release, La Nox, is dark and different.

“I think the cigar is very unique,” said Tony Gomez of La Flor Dominicana to halfwheel. “It’s very different from everything we’ve done and it’s gotten away from the big ring gauges.”

The La Flor Dominicana La Nox is 6 1/2 x 50 toro extra. Gomez says the company is using the darkest Brazilian wrappers the company had over a Mexican San Andrés binder and Dominican fillers from the company’s La Canela farms including piloto and pelo de oro tobaccos.

According to Gomez, La Nox is medium-full, but smooth—and of course dark.

Gomez said it will be limited in production although made on a continuous basis. Pricing is set at $11 cigars and it will start shipping in round 10-count boxes in late August or early September.

The boxes are rather different for La Flor Dominicana, not only in shape, but also in function. Gomez said that a couple of years ago a box maker approached him with a box using magnets instead of traditional hinges. He said that he couldn’t find the right project for it, until now. The lid attaches via magnets and can be removed for retail display.

Both the band and boxes use a night time scene with the font being inspired by that of Vincent van Gogh.

While it doesn’t follow the Chapter Series branding, the younger Gomez said this was a project where he led the blend and brand development. This is the third consecutive year he has released a project at the IPCPR trade show following the La Flor Dominicana Chapter 1 and Capitulo II.

La Nox will debut at the 2015 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show next week.
