A new vitola in Karen Berger Cigars’ K-Fire line is on the way to retailers.

The K-Fire Mega is a 6 x 60 gordo made up of a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a habano binder from Jalapa, Nicaragua and a filler blend of tobaccos grown in Nicaragua. The new size has an MSRP of $15.50 each, and they are packaged in 20-count boxes priced at $310.

This is the second vitola in the K-Fire line, following the original 6 x 52 box-pressed toro that was released late last year. Both sizes are being rolled at the Estelí Cigars S.A. factory in Nicaragua.

According to Bruce Busch, vice-president of Karen Berger Cigars, the name of the K-Fire line is taken from a term used at the company’s Estelí Cigars S.A. factory that refers to the temperature of 150 degrees, which is the temperature that pilónes can reach while the tobacco is being processed. A pilón is a large pile of curing tobacco leaves that can weigh between 3,500-4,000 pounds.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
