Mike Bellody is no stranger to the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, but this year he was showing off his new company, MLB Cigar Ventures and its debut cigar, Imperia.

As you may recall, Imperia began shipping late last fall; it uses a high-priming Dominican HVA wrapper along with Nicaraguan and Dominican binder and filler, with production handled by The Quesada Factory in the Dominican Republic. The line is offered in four sizes, the Pita (5 1/2 x 44, $7.98), Robusto (5 x 52, $8.30), Toro (6 x 50, $8.70) and Gordo (6 x 60, $9.40). Each size comes in 20-count boxes.

While Bellody has been focusing much of his attention towards retailers in the northeastern U.S. since that is where he is based, he mentioned that a number of stores from around the country have been stopping by the booth and showing interest, which could have it coming to more stores soon.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
