Too much litter from cigarette butts has resulted in a complete ban on smoking and the use of all tobacco products in the parks of Houlton, Maine.
The town council unanimously approved the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday night, and when it goes into effect, violators could face fines of $50, according to a report from the Bangor Daily News. The town has not yet posted the ordinance on its website.
Houlton is located in northeastern Maine, along the border with New Brunswick, Canada. It has a population of approximately 6,100 people.
