Gran Habano Announces John Gonzalez as VP of Sales

Gran Habano has announced the hiring of John A. Gonzalez as its new vice-president of sales.

In a statement issued by the company, Gonzalez will be working closely with company owner George Rico “to manage Gran Habano’s sales team to design and implement sales promotional programs to further cultivate customer relationships.”

“It is my pleasure to have become part of the Gran Habano company and the Rico Family, working closely with George Rico,” Gonzalez said in a press release.

“It is an exciting time for me and the company as we move forward to the release of the new products and programs during this New Year. I am looking forward to the company’s growth in the domestic and international markets.”

Gonzalez brings 10 years of cigar industry experience to the position. Most recently he spent four years with Kuuts LLC/Tabacalera Zapata LLC as its vp and general manager, and prior to that was the vp of sales for Don Pepin Garcia/My Father Cigars, Inc. He joined the company officially on Jan. 4.

An earlier version of this story indicated Mr. Gonzalez has 45 years of industry experience. Mr. Gonzalez does have 45 years of professional work experience, though only 10 of those have been in the premium cigar industry. We sincerely regret the error.

About the author

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
