First it was the Eye of the Shark, now it’s the robusto’s turn.
Last week, retailers began receiving the Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto, the second of two planned limited editions from Arturo Fuente paying tribute to the 80th birthday of the Family’s patriarch, Carlos Fuente Sr.
The Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto measures 5 1/4 x 50 and is said to be the latest iteration of the famed Don Carlos Senior Blend. Suggested pricing for the cigar is $13 per cigar. The Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto comes in black boxes of 20. Like the Eye of the Shark, the cigar features the script “The Man’s 80th.”
The Senior Blend is a modified version of the company’s Don Carlos blend. It is the personal cigar of Fuente Sr. and changes periodically over time as his personal tastes change. This isn’t the first time it has been released to retailers. For Fuente Sr.’s 75th and 76th birthday, the company sent select retailers a single box of Senior Blend with special secondary bands. Unlike the Personal Reserve Robusto, those cigars were sent to retailers for free as a gift from the company.
This year’s version was offered to retailers as part of the company’s special at the annual IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in July. Retailers who purchased 25 boxes of regular production product were given the chance to purchase a box each of: Eye of the Shark, Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto, Añejo 8-8-8, OpusX Rosado Oscuro Oro and Short Story Maduro. Retailers were limited into how many specials they could purchase, but they were able to purchase more than one.
In addition to Fuente Sr.’s birthday, this also marks the 30th anniversary of the Don Carlos brand.
