After a brief hiatus, Erik Wentworth, who once led Hammer + Sickle, is now back in the cigar business with his own company.

Wentworth has teamed up with Jim Ferreira to launch 3 LEAF Cigars, which began shipping to stores earlier this month. The brand is launching with two blends—3 LEAF Connecticut and 3 LEAF Habano—both of which use wrappers grown in Ecuador over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The cigars are produced at an undisclosed factory in the Dominican Republic.

The two blends are offered in the same three sizes:

  • 3 LEAF Connecticut / Habano 5 x 50 — $10 (Box of 16, $160)
  • 3 LEAF Connecticut / Habano 6 x 48 — $10.50 (Box of 16, $168)
  • 3 LEAF Connecticut / Habano 6 x 54 — $11 (Box of 16, $176)

Wentworth worked at Klin Groupe, the parent of Hammer + Sickle, from 2013 to 2022, most recently serving as its executive vice president. In June 2018, Eric Hanson—the company’s founder and chairman—suddenly passed away; in 2022, the company dissolved.

“I realized about one year after being absent from the cigar industry, how much of an impression it had left on my life,” said Wentworth in a press release. “During the end of 2022 I wanted to go back. In an industry that thrives off of relationships, 3 LEAF is no exception. Everything from the name to the company’s founders is rooted on relationships with those closest to me. I knew I wanted to start this endeavor with the support of my friends and family and quickly contacted my close friend Jim Ferreira about making a cigar together. Without hesitation he was in favor of the idea and we began making plans.”

Wentworth says 3 LEAF is handling its own distribution.
