Eiroa From CLE Nears Release

Christian Eiroa’s most expensive cigar since his days at Camacho is nearing release. Eiroa, the third eponymous cigar in recent memory from the family, is slated to arrive in the next 45 days, or right before the 2013 IPCPR show if all goes to plan.

“It is the Eiroa family signature strength and flavor,” Eiroa told halfwheel.

The Honduran puro is being rolled at the company’s new El Aladino factory in Danlí, Honduras. Roughly 15 pairs are working on the flagship release according to Eiroa.

“The rollers go through a learning process where until they are making the bunches just way we like them, they don’t get to make anything for Eiroa.”

Four sizes are planned: 4 x 48 Prensado, 5 x 50, 6 x 52 and a 6 x 60. Eiroa said the 8/11 Perfecto size, the one the family made famous while at Camacho, isn’t planned for this release. Pricing is expected to start at just under $10.00 per cigar for the smallest size and run up to as high as $12.00, although boxes are still being finalized, currently described as the main hold-up.

Eiroa backed away from describing this release as a “limited edition,” saying there were 80,000 cigars being made and describing it as somewhere between limited and regular production.

He announced plans for the Honduran factory last year when he made his return to the cigar business. El Aladino was an older movie theater in Danlí owned by the Eiroa family. The conversion to cigar factory was completed in January and since then new production has slowly moved to the new factory from Rancho Jamastran, the factory the family sold to Oettinger Davidoff Group.

Eiroa said Asylum 13 Corojo is currently the only cigar on the market coming from the factory, but the company is preparing to transition all CLE production to the factory in the near future.
