Drew Estate to Release FSG Blends in June (Update)

It’s not a huge secret that since 2013, Drew Estate has been working with tobacco grown in Florida by Jeff Borysiewicz, fermenting it in their Estelí, Nicaragua factory. Next month consumers will get their first taste of it at one of the company’s Barn Smoker events.

Drew Estate announced the dates for its three Barn Smoker events today, which includes a June 4 event in Clermont, Fla., the site where Borysiewicz has been growing FSG tobacco.

Included in the ticket price will be four of FSG cigars: a robusto, toro, belicoso and 6 x 60, as well as what’s being called a “special blend” released in a 6 x 52 box press and a Kentucky Fire Cured Yard Bird, the size that is only available at Barn Smoker events.

Following the event, the FSG line will be officially released during an in-store event at Corona Cigar Co.’s Sand Lake location. Corona Cigar Co. is owned by Borysiewicz and his wife, Tanya.

Specific sizes of the cigars as well as pricing and other information have yet to be disclosed by either Drew Estate or Corona Cigar Co.

Drew Estate’s other Barn Smoker events are scheduled for Aug. 6 in South Windsor, Conn. and Oct. 1, in Hopkinsville, Ken. Launched in 2014, Drew Estate calls them “a completely unique experience, bringing the cigar smoker to the farm level, where they experience first-hand tobacco growing, processing, and finishing.”

Update (May 25, 2016) — Drew Estate released pictures of the FSG cigars today, as well as confirmed the prices of the cigars that had been reported elsewhere. Each size will come in 20-count boxes. Additionally, a limited edition has been announced, a Trunk-Pressed Toro (6 x 54, $15) with an MSRP of $150 for a 10-count box. This size will feature its own unique blend, which utilizes a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Mexican binder, and Florida Sungrown filler tobacco, along with fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. Additional release details about the limited edition, such as shipping date and quantity produced, have not been announced by the company yet, and an email seeking that information has not been returned.

Update (May 24, 2016) — Cigar Aficionado is reporting that the cigars will use a blend of a Brazilian wrapper, Honduran habano seed binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Florida. The specific dimensions and pricing of the sizes have also been reported as being a robusto (5 x 54, $11.50), Toro (6 x 52, $13), Belicoso (6 1/2 x 54, $14) and Sixty (6 x 60, $15). A representative from Drew Estate declined to comment on the report.
