Smoking at Dallas parks and public golf courses will remain, for now.

On Thursday, the Dallas Park and Recreation board tabled a vote that could have recommended the City Council to vote to ban smoking at all public parks and golf courses.

The most controversial part—the fact that the ban would apply to even private events at public parks including the Texas State Fair—appeared to cause problems for the vote.

A committee will now be tasked with rewriting the legislation before it is sent back to the Parks and Recreation board. Even if it passes that vote, it will still need to be approved by the Dallas City Council.
