Most cigars come packaged in either boxes or bundles, but a select few come in jars of various shapes, sizes and materials. In the modern era, these jars tend to be made of less expensive materials than a traditional ceramic jar, but for its latest release, Dalay has opted for the classic pottery.

Last month, the Dalay Sevilla Robusto Especial went on sale in the company’s home market of Germany. The cigar is a 5 5/8 x 54 parejo that uses an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic. Dalay says the wrapper went through a unique fermentation process that not only gives it a darker color but also added texture, resulting in an appearance where there’s a lot more color variation than most cigars.

Each cigar has an MSRP of €14.95.

There’s also an accompanying Dalay Sevilla Brandy that was made from Andalusian wines; it is offered in 500ml bottles priced at €52.

The two products are more than just an exercise in co-branding, as the filler tobacco was aged in barrels that previously held the brandy.

“Thanks to cigars such as the Dalay Istanbul with its exotic Turkish filler tobacco, we are known in the cigar industry for pioneering and thinking outside the box,” said Michael Grossklos, ceo of Dalay, in a press release. “With the Dalay Sevilla, we have once again created a novelty experience by incorporating a brandy cask for the first time and the special fermentation of the wrapper, which appeals to even avid aficionados in terms of both flavor and aesthetics.”

There are just 360 numbered jars, each containing 20 cigars. On the front of the jars are six medallions representing various aspects of Dalay and Seville, Spain.

“Due to my passion for art, it has long been a desire of mine to present our cigars in the most beautiful way possible,” said Salih Dalay, founder of Dalay. “The Jar captures the atmosphere and beauty of Seville, a city that captivated me on my first visit.”
