The newest size of Crowned Heads’ Mil Dias line, the 4 7/8 x 56 Topes, has begun shipping to stores, with the company telling halfwheel that the first boxes left the warehouse on Friday.

The Mil Dias line gets its name from the 1,000 days that elapsed between when the Tabacalera Pichardo factory gave some samples to Crowned Heads and when the blend was finalized. That blend uses an Ecuadorian habano-seed wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Peru.

The Mil Dias Topes is priced at $12.25 per cigar and $245 for a box of 20 cigars. It joins the line as a regular production line, the first new regular production size since the line debuted in 2020, making its debut at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show.

“We felt the timing was right to expand the Mil Días range, and this will be the largest ring gauge to-date in the brand,” said Jon Huber, co-founder of Crowned Heads, in a press release. “We found the larger ring gauge when combined with a shorter length really allowed the blend to open up and express itself, emphasizing the unique floral notes and sweetened cream tones that Mil Dias has become known for.”

There are now five regular production sizes of the Mil Días line, as well as five limited editions:

The two Marranitos limited editions use a modified blend, as they swap out the Ecuadorian habano-seed wrapper used for the other sizes for an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf.

Mil Días is produced at TacaNicsa, the factory led by Eradio Pichardo. It is located in the same building as Tabacalera Pichardo, the factory that made Mil Días when the line debuted.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
