In late 2014, Cuban Tradition Cigar Group announced that it would be bringing back the Counsellor brand. That hit a roadblock of sorts last May when Terry Johnson announced that he was leaving Cuban Tradition Cigar Group.
Now, the Counsellor brand is back on track for release next month.
The first new line from Counsellor is The Judge, made at Tabacalera TLJ in the Dominican Republic. It will use a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, criollo 98 binder with corojo 92 and criollo 98 filler. There will be five sizes made: 4 1/2 x 42, 5 x 50, 6 x 42, 6 1/2 x 52 torpedo and 6 x 60.
All sizes will come in 10-count boxes and carry a suggested retail price between $5.60-6.40.
Counsellor’s history dates back to 1894 but has been dormant since the 1930s. T.L. Johnson filed for a trademark on the name in 2013.
The Judge will debut in the Rocky Mountain region with a launch event at Casper Cigar Co. in Casper, Wyo. on Feb. 6.
