Soon, smoking at most workplaces in Conway, S.C. could become a thing of the past. The Conway City Council is considering a new ordinance that would fine violators $100 if smoking is caught inside most business or at non-designated areas of parks and recreation areas.

Tobacco stores, cigar bars and hotels will be permitted as long as the establishments have proper ventilation systems.

Conway is located about 100 miles northeast of Charleston and 15 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach. It has a population of approximately 19,300.

Ed. note — the original version of this story identified Conway as being in North Carolina. While there is a small city by that name there, the legislation in this story is being considered in Conway, South Carolina. We regret the error.
