A new bill in Colorado could allow local governments to impose tougher laws and higher taxes on tobacco products.

H.B. 1033 would remove restrictions that currently prevent counties from imposing their own laws on tobacco. Currently, counties may impose their own taxes, but they are then unable to access monies collected by Colorado under the state’s own taxes on tobacco products.

Furthermore, the bill would allow counties to impose their own restrictions on tobaccos, including the ability to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco.
