CigarKings has a new series called COY, but it doesn’t stand for cigar of the year.
Rather, it’s an acronym for color of the year, an unofficial tie-in to Pantone’s color of the year. This year, that color is Pantone 18-1750, viva magenta. As one would expect, that color is featured prominently in the packaging. As for the cigar, COY 2023 is a 5 x 52 belicoso that uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a corojo binder from Jalapa, Nicaragua and fillers that include corojo from Jalapa and habano 2000 from Estelí.
Production is limited to 24,000 cigars. Half of those cigars will be sold in boxes of 12 and the other half will be sold in tubos, which come in packs of four that are shipped to retailers in display boxes of five packs, i.e. 20 cigars. CigarKings will release the cigars on Friday, April 7.
“The COY 23 cigar is a unique blend that offers a rich and complex flavor profile,” said the company in a press release. “The first draw reveals a hint of bitterness, which is quickly followed by a sweet and fruity taste. As the cigar progresses, the nutty flavors become more pronounced, adding depth to the smoking experience. The cigar is not overpowering, yet it has a satisfying finish that lingers on the palate.”
The cigars in tubos will have a price of €15 ($16.36) in Germany; in Austria, it will be €18,90 ($20.62) and CHF 23.90 ($25.38) in Switzerland.
CigarKings, which is based in Munich, says that the packaging is produced in Bavaria. The company’s cigars are made in Nicaragua.
