Foundation Cigar Co. will reportedly be adding two new lines to its Charter Oak series, one called Pegnataro and the other Pasquale.
The company made the announcement via Cigar Aficionado, the cigars are named after company founder Nicholas Melillo’s grandfathers, and both are 5 1/2 x 48 coronas. The Charter Oak Pegnataro uses a Connecticut shade wrapper, while the Charter Oak Pasquale uses a broadleaf wrapper. Both cigars use Nicaraguan tobacco for the binder and filler, but the blends are described as being different from one another, as well as stronger in body than the other Charter Oak lines.
Each cigar is priced at $13 per cigar and $156 for a box of 12 cigars. They are being produced by Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A., with production limited to 500 boxes of each blend on a quarterly basis.
“The Charter Oak core line would have been their everyday cigar and these new blends would be for the weekend or a special occasion,” said Melillo in a press release. “These blends are deeply personal to me, as they honor the legacies of my grandfathers. The CT Broadleaf and CT Shade wrappers represent their distinct personalities, allowing me to celebrate their individuality through exceptional cigars that bear their names.”
Both cigars will be displayed at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July and are scheduled to begin shipping in the fall.
Update — Melillo confirmed the accuracy of the Cigar Aficionado report, as well as that he is unable to discuss the cigars or provide images of them due to an exclusivity agreement with that publication. He said that a press release with images will be issued on Thursday afternoon.
