In mid-February, Caldwell announced the release of The Caldwell Collection, which is his premium line. The JV line is meant to meet a different demand than that of The Caldwell Collection. Caldwell said that “sometimes you have to let the ‘b-team’ play–our premium lines feature the rarest tobaccos rolled by the most skilled rollers we could find. We wanted to also have something for those who cannot spend $9 or $10 on a cigar everyday.”

He added that “the JV lines are fantastic cigars; they are just not quite as sophisticated as the Caldwell lines and we utilized tobaccos that are readily available for these lines.”

Seleccion Junior Varsity is being made in Santiago, Dominican Republic, by Henderson and William Ventura. The tobaccos are being sourced from Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

While The Caldwell Collection began shipping on Monday, Caldwell said the Seleccion Junior Varsity will begin shipping in three weeks.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
