To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the company that bears his name, Robert Caldwell decided to blend a cigar that showed not only the roots of the company but also its evolution.
Later this month, the Caldwell 10th Anniversary will ship to stores. It uses a three-and-a-half-year-old Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Production is handled by Tabacalera William Ventura, the factory that has produced many of Caldwell’s releases over the years.
It will have an MSRP of $50 per cigar and production is limited to just 200 boxes of 10 cigars, each of which comes in its own individual coffins.
When I sat down to work on this cigar, my first inclination was to make a classic Caldwell smoke — something that was mild to medium and packed with flavor… most likely with a lighter wrapper,” said Caldwell in a press release. “In thinking through the project, I decided instead to make a cigar that showcases our growth and my experience blending over the past 10 years. We started as a brand making one style of cigar and have grown into a diverse portfolio with a broad profile of flavor expressions. In building this cigar, I wanted to use a very well aged wrapper that was more full in body but still smooth on the palate. I also incorporated a Colombian Cubita filler as a nod to my friends who I started the business with, who are both Colombian.”
While Caldwell Cigar Co. might only be a decade-old, Caldwell’s time in the cigar industry dates back to 2008 with Hotel Humidor, a company he started that supplied cigars to luxury hotels in Miami. Shortly after, he teamed up with Christian Eiroa for a brand called Wynwood. Differences between Eiroa and Caldwell led the two to split. In 2014, he launched Caldwell Cigar Co. as well as Lost&Found. Earlier this year, Laudisi Enterprises acquired both companies.
