The Caldwell 10th Anniversary is now heading to stores, as Laudisi Enterprises—which acquired the Caldwell brand earlier this year—started shipping the celebratory cigar yesterday.

That blend uses a three-and-a-half-year-old Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. It’s a blend that Robert Caldwell said was developed to show not only the roots of the company but also its evolution.

Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, the factory that has made many of Caldwell’s releases over the years, also produced these cigars. Production is limited to just 200 boxes of 10 cigars, each in its own individual coffin.

As has become the trend with limited editions celebrating anniversaries and other events, these cigars will not come cheap. The Caldwell 10th Anniversary has an MSRP of $50 per cigar and $500 per box.

“When I sat down to work on this cigar, my first inclination was to make a classic Caldwell smoke — something that was mild to medium and packed with flavor… most likely with a lighter wrapper,” said Caldwell in a press release. “In thinking through the project, I decided instead to make a cigar that showcases our growth and my experience blending over the past 10 years. We started as a brand making one style of cigar and have grown into a diverse portfolio with a broad profile of flavor expressions. In building this cigar, I wanted to use a very well aged wrapper that was more full in body but still smooth on the palate. I also incorporated a Colombian Cubita filler as a nod to my friends who I started the business with, who are both Colombian.”

While Caldwell Cigar Co. might be celebrating 10 years in business, Robert Caldwell’s time in the cigar industry dates back to 2008 and Hotel Humidor, a company he started that supplied cigars to luxury hotels in Miami. He went on to partner with Christian Eiroa for a brand called Wynwood, though differences between Eiroa and Caldwell led the two to part ways. In 2014, he launched Caldwell Cigar Co. as well as Lost&Found. Earlier this year, Laudisi Enterprises acquired both companies.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
