For now, smoking in private businesses in Bullitt County, Ky. will be allowed, but smoking in public buildings will become illegal. After months of speculation and debate, the Fiscal Council passed the measure 4-1 with neither side happy about the outcome.

It seems likely there will at least be an attempt to ban smoking in private buildings, although it’s unclear if the measure would pass. The Board of Health actually banned smoking in all buildings, but the law is unenforceable according to the city’s attorney.

Bullitt County is located just south of Louisville in central Kentucky with a population over 75,000.
