Avon, Colo. to Raise Tobacco Purchase Age to 21, Require Tobacco Retailer Licenses
A proposal to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21-years-old in Avon, Colo. has received the approval of the town council, though the final ordinance isn’t quite ready for publication.
During the meeting, the ordinance underwent a number of revisions, which has forced the city attorney to update the ordinance before it can be publicized, according to Debbie Hoppe, the Avon Town Clerk. She did not offer a timetable as to when that finalized document might become available.
The increase was scheduled to go into effect in Jan. 1, 2019, according to previous versions of the ordinance that the council had considered.
The council also approved a proposal to require all tobacco retailers in the town to obtain a new license, which had a proposed cost of $500 per year.
Avon is home to approximately 6,500 people and is located in the central part of the state, just over 100 miles west of Denver.
