During this year’s Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival, Asylum Cigars will be releasing a new limited edition cigar called Meshugana that was developed in collaboration with Cigar Dojo.

The cigar is a 6 x 52 toro and a Honduran puro highlighted by a corojo wrapper and Jamastran-grown tobaccos in the binder and filler. It is being produced by The CLE Factory in Honduras, with a total of 300 bundles of 10 cigars being made. Pricing is set at $10 per cigar and $100 per bundle. The gets its name from as a play on Yiddish slang for nonsense, silliness, or craziness.

“When Eric from Cigar Dojo contacted us about doing the 2022 release of the Cigar Dojo exclusive, we knew we had to say yes,” said Tom Lazuka of Asylum Cigars via a press release. “The guys from Cigar Dojo have been great to us throughout the years, and we’ve always wanted to do this collaboration.”

The cigar will make its debut at a private event leading up to the Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival in Boulder, Colo., and will then be offered to attendees of that event on Aug. 27. It will then head to Smoke Inn in Florida for online sales, with that retailer selling them beginning on Sept. 2.

“For a long time we have wanted to do a blend with authentic corojo tobacco, and this new Meshugana Asylum features it in a marvelous way,” said Eric Guttormson, owner of Cigar Dojo, in a press release. “The Asylum team came up with an outstanding blend that is down-right delicious.”

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
