Arlington, Texas Smoking Ban Gets 60-day Delay
The new smoking ban in Arlington, Texas won’t formally go into effect until July 26.
That’s thanks to a temporary injunction the city agreed to as part of lawsuit brought by 10 Arlington nightclubs. The law went into effect on May 27, but the city said it wouldn’t enforce the regulations for 60 days allowing for business to adjust to the new rules.
However, that specific language wasn’t specifically described in the ordinance, meaning it wasn’t binding.
Arlington’s new smoking ban will cover bars, night clubs, strip clubs, pool halls and bowling alleys. Exempted are bing halls, as well as tobacco stores. After a couple of attempts over the last few years, the city finally passed the smoking ban after making modifications including exempting bingo halls and changing an outdoor smoking provision.
Arlington is a Dallas suburb with a population of just under 400,000. It is home to AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers.
