Smoking in public parks in American Canyon, Calif. is likely a thing of the past. Last week, the City Council voted unanimously to pass a ban on smoking at public parks, the city’s aquatic center and senior center. It now faces a second reading before it becomes law.

There is some discussion regarding possible exemption for longer events, but there is opposition from some members of the City Council.

American Canyon is located in Napa County, northeast of San Francisco. It has a population around 20,000.
