Altadis U.S.A. Adds Montecristo Epic Craft Cured

The Plasencia family will be creating another cigar for Altadis U.S.A.

It’s called Montecristo Epic Craft Cured, a reference to how the tobacco used for the cigar was processed. Instead of using large pilones, the company says the Plasencia family aged the tobacco in smaller pilones.

News of the cigar was first reported by Cigar Aficionado. Altadis U.S.A. previously told halfwheel a press release would not be issued until “next week.”

As for the tobacco, it’s a Nicaraguan puro including a rosado oscuro wrapper from the 2006 harvest, a binder from Ometepe and fillers from Condega, Estelí and Jalapa.

It’s offered in three sizes: 5 x 52, 6 x 52 and 6 1/8 x 52 with pricing set at $14.65-16.50 per cigar.

The cigar is expected to ship in mid-December.

This is the third time Plasencia has made a Montecristo for Altadis U.S.A. following the Montecristo Espada in 2014 and limited Montecristo Espada Estoque.

Update (Dec. 5, 2017) — Details of the cigar were confirmed by Altadis U.S.A. in a press release, while photos provided by the company were added to the story. Additionally, the name was updated to add the word Epic, which had previously been omitted.
