Last night, the Allegany County Board of Legislators voted 8-7 to table a measure that would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.
While that means the measure won’t go into law, it doesn’t mean it’s simply going away. Legislators vowed to continue the discussion on the matter, though no date has been given as to when the board will formally take up the matter.
Allegany County is located in the southwestern part of the state. It has a population around 50,000.
