The details of Tatuaje’s annual Monster Series dress box release should be fairly familiar to fans by now: 666 hand-numbered 13-count dress boxes covered in art inspired by the specific movie monster being celebrated. Inside each dress box are 13 cigars that feature an MSRP of $13 each, with the majority of dress boxes sent to 13 different retailers every year.
This year’s release of The Bride—based on the character in James Whale’s movie The Bride of Frankenstein that debuted in 1935—was even more special for one simple reason: it was the final release in this series, at least in this form. As with past releases, the newest coffin is both eye-catching and unique, while the cigars inside feature a simple band that belies the blend it is wrapped around.
Tatuaje owner Pete Johnson has indicated that the series may yet live on in another form, but one thing is certain: having appeared in four of the seven years that halfwheel has been in existence, the consistently unique packaging for the Monster Series will be tough to beat. — Brooks Whittington.
