The Frisco, Texas City Council is scheduled to discuss a proposed park smoking ban at its meeting tonight, and the resulting ordinance could result in either a prohibition on smoking in parks, or an outright ban on the possession of tobacco products in parks.

According to the proposal, in March 2014, City Council directed staff to prepare an amendment to clarify that smoking is prohibited in parks. As a result of their work, city staff have returned with the two options for the city council to consider. The directive to develop a park smoking ban came out of a February vote that banned the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors, as well as prohibited their usage wherever smoking is currently banned.

If enacted, violators of the ban could face fines of $100 for the first offense and $200 for each subsequent offense.

A summary of the proposal can be found here, while the full text with both options is available here.

Frisco is home to 141,550 residents and is located about 27 miles north of Dallas.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
