Good Karma Cigar in Amarillo, Texas has confirmed that they are working on an updated version of their Donkey Dropping cigar and hope to have it in store by mid-July.

Todd Dailey told halfwheel that the cigar is being made at Esteban Carreras’ factory in Estelí, Nicaragua and will be available in four sizes: Corona, Robusto, Toro, and Gordo. They are producing a total of 5,000 cigars between the four sizes.

This is the second cigar named the Donkey Dropping to be released by the store. The original release was blended and rolled at Raices Cubanas in Honduras. Dailey said that compared to the original release, the new version is “a significant improvement…throttled back a bit in body strength, but has a more complex blend which also features a bit of Ometepe leaf, and is just fantastic.” The blend is a collaboration between Dailey and Gonzalo Puentes, master blender for Esteban Carreras and uses a bit of Ometepe leaf.

Dailey added that as soon as an arrival date for the cigar is confirmed, they will begin taking pre-orders, and when the cigar arrives it will be in boxes and “banded in the infamous style of Pedro,” the store’s donkey mascot pictured below.

The original Donkey Dropping was billed as being “Tropical Over-Run’s of a really famous, sought-after smoke,” referring to Tabacalera Tropical, the company that was acquired by Casa Fernandez, who owns the Raices Cubana factory where notable cigars such as Viaje, Illusione and Alec Bradley have been made. Singles of the previous version were sold for $6.00, with wheels of 50 going for $250.00. There was speculation on message boards that the cigars were unbanded Viajes, a claim denied by Andre Farkas of Viaje.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
