A ban on the use of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and other inhalant systems, was approved by the Woodburn City Council at its most recent meeting.
The idea has been in the works since late June, when former Mayor Nancy Kirkse made the request to the council that city staff begin researching similar ordinances in other cities with the intent of drafting one for Woodburn. The ordinance got the go-ahead to be drafted in July and was passed at the Aug. 12 meeting.
Violators will be subject to a $125 if caught using tobacco products in city parks.
Woodburn is home to just under 26,000 residents and is located 30 miles south of Portland.
