Widespread Smoking Bans Implemented in Turkmenistan
A number of new smoking bans took effect on December 25 in the central Asian country of Turkmenistan, home to just over five million residents, including a stipulation that makes giving tobacco products as a gift a crime.
The law prohibits smoking in both public and private businesses, institutions, organizations, restaurants, shops, cultural centers, and parks. In addition, it bans all forms of tobacco advertising across all forms of media and even in retail tobacco shop, according to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty.
In addition to the new restrictions on tobacco, the law establishes medical care for those seeking treatment from tobacco related illnesses.
