The Wheaton City Council has raised the minimum age to purchase tobacco to 21.

As of July 1, customers must be 21 to purchase tobacco products and e-cigarettes. In addition, employees at stores will also be required to be at least 16 to sell tobacco products, and even then, someone of the age of 21 or older must be present for a sale of tobacco products.

Wheaton is the county seat of DePage County, about 30 miles west of Chicago. It has a population around 50,000 people.
