The fourth installment of the Weller by Cohiba line is coming to cigar stores at the end of the month, and it is the first release in the series to use tobacco aged in Weller Full Proof Bourbon barrels.
The cigar is a 6 x 50 toro that uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a barrel-aged U.S.-grown broadleaf binder, and a filler of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobacco. It’s the binder that gets the barrel-aging, spending time in the same barrels that once held the elusive Weller Full Proof Bourbon, a 114 proof spirit that forgoes the traditional chill filtration process to preserve the bourbon’s natural notes of vanilla, dark cherries and caramel.
The finished cigar is described as being medium to full bodied, highlighted by notes of bourbon, honey and cedar. They are made at General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago.
“Weller by Cohiba has become a staple in the Cohiba lineup and a great example of how the craftsmanship behind cigars and bourbon mirror one another,” said Sean Williams, brand ambassador for Cohiba, in a press release. “Going on this journey with a partner as esteemed as Weller Bourbon is a proud moment for Cohiba.”
Pricing is set at $29.99 per cigar, with the cigars presented in metallic blue and gold tubos and packed in 10-count boxes. They will begin shipping at the end of September.
This is not the first Weller by Cohiba release to get the barrel-aging treatment, as previous releases have used tobacco aged in Weller 12 Year Bourbon barrels. The line debuted in 2021 and added new releases in 2022 and 2023.
