Gurkha v. Davidoff Year of the Dragon Lawsuit Scheduled for September 2025

It seems that over the years that I have covered the premium cigar industry, not a lot of these kinds of issues make their way to a courtroom. In fact, one of the things I have long heard within the industry is that these kinds of things don’t make it to court and are generally resolved with a phone call or e-mail. While a court date has been set, it doesn’t mean it will end up in court, but it could, and it will be fascinating to see just how this plays out in the coming year or so.

U.K. Generational Tobacco Ban Resurrected by New Labour Government (Update)

The issue didn’t make it to a decision during the previous government, but the lawmakers of the new government are likely to take another look at it after King Charles signaled the Labour government would reintroduce the proposal, saying that “A Bill will be introduced to progressively increase the age at which people can buy cigarettes and impose limits on the sale and marketing of vapes.” New Zealand tried this but eventually backpedaled; whether it has the support needed to pass in the United Kingdom will be an interesting story that could have deep ramifications.

Les Fines Lames Commemorating 5th Anniversary With Two New Le Petit Finishes

Congratulations to the Les Fines Lames team on reaching the company’s fifth anniversary, something that is a challenge for any business. Along the way, the company has made a name for itself with its Le Petit cigar knife and a collection of other cutters. Just about a year ago, the company announced that it had entered an agreement with the Vandermarliere Family of Cigars that resulted in Oliva Cigar Co. being able to sell and distribute the brand’s products in the United States. Additionally, Vandermarliere became an investor in Les Fines Lames, providing them with funding to help the accessory maker continue to grow in its business operations and develop new products, among other things. No small feat to say the least, and one I will gladly raise a glass of Champagne in celebration.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
