When you hear the term “regular production,” Viaje is probably the last company that comes to mind. For the better part of the last eight years, the company has almost exclusively released cigars in limited batches, but now, one line is returning to regular production.
Last week, Andre Farkas told Cigar Insider that the company’s Exclusivo line would be placed into regular production. It’s a fairly drastic change compared to how the line started, a private blend for Farkas. Three sizes will be available in the U.S.: Exclusivo Robusto (5 x 52), Toro (6 x 50), Double R (5 1/4 x 54) with a 6 x 52 torpedo heading to the German market. While there have been 15 releases in the Exclusivo line, only the 5 x 52 Robusto has previously been offered.
The cigars are being made at Raíces Cubanas in Honduras, the factory that has produced the line previously. The blend is a Nicaraguan puro with a Criollo 98 wrapper from AGANORSA. It is expected to be available in late April or early May.
In early 2012, Viaje announced it would be “100% small batch” indicating that the Oro and Platino would no longer be considered “regular production” and only once per year. Neither line had truly been “regular production” for a few years as both were only available to retailers two or three times per year and in relatively small quantities.
When asked, a representative from the company told halfwheel that retailers would be able to order the cigars year-round.
Winston’s Humidor of Midlothian, Va. sent out an email indicating they were one of two accounts to receive the cigar:
We are honored to be selected as one of only two retailers to receive the highly sought after Viaje Zombie! And to make the occasion even more memorable, we will be celebrating with a Zombie release party featuring Andre Farkas himself! This is truly a rare opportunity to meet Andre and smoke some of his new and event only cigars!
Join us on Friday April 24th for our Zombie themed party with Andre! This special event gets underway at 5 PM – come early and stay late, as you don’t want to miss out!
Previously, the Viaje Zombie releases have been restricted to specific retailers and one of the company’s more exclusive releases with all but one Zombie limited to 100 boxes of 20 cigars.
