Some new cigars from Viaje will be arriving at stores in the coming weeks, as on Monday the company announced a new extension that merges its Zombie and Peppers lines, as well as the return of the Zombie Super Shot.

Little has been said about the new Zombie Peppers, other than that there will be three blends: Zombie Peppers Red, Zombie Peppers Green and Zombie Peppers Black. A representative of the company called it a confluence of the Zombie and Peppers lines, but noted that they are to be considered an extension to the Zombie line. Beyond that, the company called them “similar to the perfecto shape” used in the Viaje Peppers line, and a similar—but not the same—blend as found in the Zombie line. The packaging indicates that there are 25 cigars in each box.

The Viaje Peppers line debuted in 2015 with the Viaje Jalapeño, a 4 7/8 x 51 perfecto, and has since added several variations including the Ghost Pepper, GP 10.31, Carolina Reaper and Scotch Bonnet. The line has already had one extension by way of the Phat Jalapeño released in January 2020 and the Phat Carolina Reaper, released in January 2021, and the Phat Purple Jalapeño, released in March 2021. All of those cigars were also perfectos, though they measured 5 3/16 x 55.

As for the Zombie Super Shot, the company has said nothing specific about this year’s release, though as Viaje fans will know, this cigar has been released before. Like the Zombie Peppers, it is the merging of two lines, the Zombie, which debuted in 2011, and the Super Shot, which was first released in 2012 in two vitolas, the 10 Gauge, which measured 3 1/2 x 54, and the 12 Gauge, which measured 3 1/4 x 52.

The first Viaje Zombie Super Shot came out in 2013, and was a 3 1/2 x 54 petit robusto using an all-Nicaraguan blend highlighted by a criollo 98 wrapper. It reappeared in 2014, 2016 and 2019. It also appears to be coming in 25-count boxes and will return in the 10 gauge vitola, as indicated on the boxes.

The new cigars are scheduled to begin shipping on April 18. Additional information about the cigars will be added to this story as it becomes available.

Update (April 22, 2022) — A retailer confirmed pricing information to halfwheel: the Zombie Super Shots have an MSRP of $7.92 per cigar; the Zombie Peppers Green and Red are both priced at $12.64 per cigar; and the Zombie Peppers Black has an MSRP of $13.68.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
